Crested Butte the Unique Colorado Ski Resort

The Crested Butte resort is situated in Southwest Colorado and is set within the Gunnison National Forest and the Elk Mountain range of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.
Its winter season starts in Mid-November and ends in early April. There are 1,125 acres of terrain and 15 lifts to take you around the resort. Altogether the 121 trails are mainly aimed towards intermediate skiers, but there is terrain dedicated to both beginners and experts. There are also a couple of terrain parks, one aimed towards advanced skiers and the other towards children. Annual snowfall is around 240 inches.

There are 35km of Nordic skiing terrain and other activities include dog sled tours, cross country skiing and horseback riding. There is a heritage museum and numerous shops. The nightlife is good and there are 41 bars and restaurants throughout the resort.

Durango Mountain Resort

The Durango Mountain Resort is situated in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. There is usually 260 inches of annual snowfall and 1,200 acres of ski-able terrain. The resort isn't as big as some of the others in Colorado so there are only 85 trails and 11 lifts. There are two terrain parks. The resort opens in late November through until late April. A tubing hill, snowcat skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are also available. There is a ski school and a ski rental shop.

Eldora Mountain Resort

The Eldora Mountain Resort is situated in Nederland, Colorado and receives around 300 inches of snow annually. If you are an advanced skier, the Corona Bowl Mountain is a double black diamond and proves to be the most difficult mountain within the resort.

The resort is quite a small one with only 680 acres of ski able terrain, though its longest run is 3 miles long. There are four different restaurants offering something for all tastes, and there is plenty of lodging available in the surrounding areas of the resort.

Unlike many other resorts in Colorado, there aren't many activities here so it is better suited to those who prefer just to ski. There is a ski school where you can improve your skiing ability for an additional cost.

Keystone Resort

The Keystone Resort is situated near Vail, Colorado, It starts its winter season in early November and closes again in April. There are three mountains within the resort and it also provides the biggest night-skiing and slope side accommodation in the state. There are 2,870 acres of ski-able terrain, 117 trails, and 20 lifts. If skiing isn't enough there are also other activities including fly fishing, sleigh rides, scenic gondola rides and even wine tasting.

Loveland Ski Area

The Loveland Ski Area is situated in Georgetown, Colorado, and the slopes there are ideal for both beginners and more experienced skiers. It is one of Colorado's highest skiing areas and has 1,365 acres of ski-able terrain with 11 lifts. There aren't many on-site amenities and this in turn usually makes the prices less expensive than most other resorts.

Overall, no matter whether you are thinking of going to the Crested Butte, Arapahoe Basin or the Aspen Snowmass resort, Colorado skiing and Colorado ski resorts are hard to beat.
