They will teach you what to say to the dogs to get them to start or stop which is obviously very important to learn!
It is entirely possible for you to teach your own dog to pull you along, and there are stores which sell skijoring equipment. It is always recommended that you take a partner along with you on the activity and if you are interested you can inquire about it at any resort where you plan to book. (Note that not all resorts will allow you to bring your pets with you.)
