Vermont Vacations: Classic New England Ski Resorts

Vermont ski vacations are extremely popular for the state's beautiful mountain scenery, unspoiled forest areas, and plentiful annual snowfall, Vermont ski resorts are favorites with tourists as are the many beautiful Vermont ski areas.

The Mountain Top Inn and Resort

The Mountain Top Inn and Resort is situated 11 miles out of Killington in Chittenden, Vermont on 350 acres of land containing a stunning lake and a vast amount of national forest. Aimed at families in particular, there are plenty of outdoor activities to keep everyone entertained.

In winter, the resort turns into a magical winter wonderland and the outdoor activities include dog sledding, horse-drawn sleigh rides and ice-skating. After spending all day participating in the activities, you can relax with a nice hot chocolate and a comforting massage.

There is also a mountain top Nordic ski and snowshoe center which was one of the first commercial cross country ski touring centers within the United States. The resort has 80km of cross country ski trails (60km of that being groomed snow.) Rental equipment is available and the resort has a ski school.

Sugarbush

The Sugarbush resort is situated in Warren, Vermont and offers two mountains with killer terrain and a Superpipe, as well as a 2,000 acre Slidebrook Wilderness area.

The resort offers a full program of lessons and a ski shop with equipment rentals. Activities include horseback riding, snowshoeing and ice fishing. If you go in warmer months there are also warm weather sports including golf and hiking.

The Sugarbush Health and Racquet club has whirlpools, a steam room, tennis courts, and even a gym. Patrons can receive a sports recovery massage, a Swedish treatment and a deep tissue massage.

Altogether the resort has 111 trails which cover 53 miles of terrain. There is an average of 262 inches of annual snowfall. If you log on to their website you can check out the daily weather reports and you may even be able to find a cheap package to suit you.

Ascutney Mountain Resort

The Ascutney Mountain resort is open all year round and is situated in Brownsville, Vermont. This resort is one of the best Vermont ski resorts and is aimed towards families. There are slopes to match every skier's ability and there is a warming hut for children as well as a cool terrain park for teens. All accommodations are slope-side.

There is a fitness center with an Olympic indoor pool and a spa, which offers reflexology, various massages and warm paraffin treatments. There are some good dining options and there should be something to suit all budgets. There is always plenty of entertainment to keep you and your family happy, which includes live music and a cinema.

The winter season at this resort starts in late November and finishes in mid-April. There 56 trails and 150 acres of groomed areas to ski.

Bolton Valley

Bolton Valley, Vermont offers various different snow sports and has the second highest base elevation of any ski area in the Northeast. There are 64 trails, which cover 165 acres and six lifts. The season starts in late November and runs until April. This resort also offers night skiing, tele-skiing, snowshoeing and Nordic skiing.
